Talking about Thanksgiving in Mrs. Paton's room
This week in Mrs. Paton's room we have been reading Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pikey. This is a story about students who take a field trip to a farm where they meet a farmer and his turkeys. The students decide to rescue the turkeys from becoming Thanksgiving dinner and have them come to their homes as guests for Thanksgiving. Your students have really enjoyed this story and discussing Thanksgiving. Discussions have included: being thankful and what we are thankful for, favorite Thanksgiving foods and more.
Our craft for this unit is a paper plate turkey. See paper plate turkeys in progress below!
I hope you enjoyed this brief snapshot of what has been going on in Mrs. Paton's room so far this week! Stay tuned for pictures of our finished turkeys :-)

What's been happening in Mrs. Paton's room
We sure have been busy in speech! The past few weeks in Mrs. Paton's speech room, we have been reading The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bat and The Little Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves by Lucille Colandro and having fun talking about all of the objects the old lady swallowed and Fall related activities.
My groups practiced their specific goals while playing a ball toss game with the little old lady.

Some groups practiced comparing and contrasting objects the little old lady swallowed.
Other groups made fall trees out of paper bags while practicing their individual goals! The kids really enjoyed that activity (a shout out goes to Ms. Jones for the great idea!).
I hope you enjoy getting a snapshot of what is going on in my speech room. Feel free to contact me with any questions or comments!

Welcome to the Dynamic Speech Duo
Welcome to the Speech/Language Program
at Rice Creek Elementary! We are looking forward to an exciting school year.
A major role in the development of your child’s speech and
language is played by you, the parent. Daily home activities can provide
numerous opportunities for you and your child to improve his or her speech and
language skills. Every child can benefit from their continued development, since
communication skills are so important for success in school.
We
hope you find this blog helpful while you work with your child at home on his/her
speech/language skills. We will periodically post newsletters or any important
updates/information about what is going on in speech.
